Some tend to be a bit skeptical when it comes to combining wood and kitchen counters. To be fair, this skepticism is quite understandable: wood will come in touch with all sorts of liquids! Water, milk, sauce, coffee, and so on, as it is basically impossible not to spill something on your counters at some point. That being said, it is also true that the durability of your wood kitchen counters depends on a variety of factors, but as long as you choose a high-quality wood that has been treated with the right kind of sealer, that’s it! You’ll have durable, long-lasting countertops that will create a beautiful, cozy and warm atmosphere in your kitchen.

Stainless steel

Stainless steel has got pros and cons as well. The main cons are that scratches and fingerprints unfortunately do stand out; however, the pros definitely outnumber the cons. For instance, this material is often the #1 choice for professional kitchens; professional chefs love stainless steel countertops because they’re really easy to clean and they’re heat-resistant. All of this makes for the perfect material for a kitchen that’s used often and quite intensely. However, if you’re planning on your kitchen to play a largely aesthetic role in your house, then stainless steel shouldn’t probably be your go-to choice.

Marble is one of the most classic choices when it comes to kitchen countertops. The reason behind its popularity are several. First of all, it is one of the classiest materials: it’s got no rivals in creating a classy and borderline fancy environment. Then, it comes in so many shades that it’s virtually impossible not to find the one that works for you. Still, it’s a porous stone; this means that it will easily absorb stains unless it’s cleaned very quickly. Moreover, it is a less resistant stone than others, so scratches are not uncommon. That said, it’s still going to last you for years, as long as you take a proper care of it!

Quartz is a relatively new entry in the kitchen countertops world, but it’s most definitely here to stay. First of all, it’s a much harder surface than others like marble and granite, which means that it will fight off lemon juice, wine, coffee, and all those other stains that are normally a nightmare. It also doesn’t chip or crack as easily! Finally, keep in mind that quartz is characterized by a richer, deeper finish than all the other hard stone surfaces, thanks to its particular manufacturing process.

The main pros of tiles is that they can be extremely decorative and colorful, while at the same time being cheap; they’re also extremely easy to lay down, so you can even style your kitchen with a DYI project! However, the main issue here is the grout: tiles are easy to clean, but the grout in between them requires a regular maintainance.
